What to do right now
- Collect the shingles that landed in the yard and keep them: they help identify the product for matching.
- Photograph the bare patch from the ground, from several angles, plus the debris on the ground.

- Check the attic under the bare area for daylight, damp sheathing or wet insulation.

Why Hartford roofs lose shingles
Asphalt shingles rely on a strip of heat-activated adhesive that bonds each course to the one below. That bond is what makes the roof a wind-resistant system rather than a stack of loose tabs. It weakens with age as the asphalt loses volatiles and stiffens, and it never forms properly at all if the roof was installed in cold weather and never saw enough sun to activate.
